Day 1 WELCOMEArrival at Logroño and accommodation at the Hotel Los Portales, in the town centre and very close to the busiest street of the capital of La Rioja, Calle Laurel. Logroño is a very happy and lively little town where you should try the "tapas", accompanied an exquisite, local red wine. -
Day 2 "TAPAS" AND "CALADOS"Logroño - Laguardia36.0 kmToday’s route will lead you from Logroño to the village of Laguardia, in the area known as La Rioja Alavesa. The departure from Logroño is by the Way of Saint James, where you will probably meet many pilgrims. After a few kilometres you leave the fields behind to enter the characteristic landscape of La Rioja, the vineyards. Once settled in your hotel, we recommend you to go explore the stunning old town of Laguardia (10th Century) and to any of its wineries with the typical “calados”, as El Fabulista or Casa Primicia wineries, and taste the famous Spanish “tapas”. -
Day 3 A SEA OF VINEYARDSLaguardia - Haro32.0 kmToday you will leave Laguardia towards the Ysios Winery, designed by the architect Calatrava and one of the insignias of La Rioja. Our route goes over La Rioja Alavesa and Euskadi, through rural paths and secondary roads, between old and new vineyards. A very beautiful landscape that looks, at some points, like a huge sea of vineyards that change colour depending on the season of the year. You will go across rural villages with stone houses and small churches, until reaching Haro, back in La Rioja. Two of the most famous wineries of La Rioja, Viña Tondonia and Muga, are located in Haro. You can visit them on weekdays. -
Day 4 WINE CULTURE MUSEUMHaro – Santo Domingo de la Calzada34.0 kmAlong the first part of this route, until Briones, the countryside is very flat and still full of vineyards. At the village of Briones you will find the Wine Culture Museum, of the Vivancos Dynasty. This amazing museum is unique in the world and we strongly recommend a visit. From Briones you cycle into a more rural part of La Rioja, and as you get closer to today´s destination, the vineyards make way for cornfields. At the End of today´s route lies Santo Domingo de la Calzada, an 11th century village on the path of the Pilgrims Route. You will be staying in what used to be the hospital for pilgrims back in the Middle Ages. -
Day 5 WAY OF SAINT JAMES IN LA RIOJASanto Domingo de la Calzada - Nájera37.0 kmDeparture from Santo Domingo de la Calzada by the Way of Saint James, where you will probably meet some pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. This first stretch goes up and down following the undulating land of La Rioja, with the mosaic landscapes of wheat fields and the Ezcaray Mountains at the horizon, until you reach San Millán, cradle of the Spanish language. From this point you will go to the East by a beautiful rural road between old vineyards and with stunning views of La Rioja. Descent to Nájera. -
Day 6 ALONG THE EBRO RIVERNájera - Logroño37.0 kmToday you will cross two different autonomous commmunities. First, in La Rioja you will find more cereal fields and then, when you get closer to Álava, the vineyards will increase. You will arrive to Elciego where one of the most famous wineries of the area is located, Marqués de Riscal, designed by Frank Gueri. After leaving Elciego you will meet the Ebro River which you will not leave until the end of your trip, back in Logroño. Accommodation in Logroño. -
Day 7 LOGROÑO AND DEPARTUREFree day in Logroño and transfer (optional) to the airport or starting point.

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS
Cylcing in La Rioja is much more than just cycling a certain amount of kilometers to get from one place to the next. La Rioja is one of those lesser known regions that will leave no visitor untouched. The hills and valleys are surrounded by majestic mountains, eagles and vultures circle the big sky, the wine and food are exquisite, you can almost touch the history when you cycle through the villages. Life has not changed here for centuries, and although there is plenty of wine and pelgrim related tourism, it has not altered the honest character of the local people. Cycling in these hills and vineyards can be challenging, but the rewards far outweigh the effort.
